final post

What do I think of blogging?
I think it is a great way to get your ideas out to a larger community who share similar interests or an outlet to just vent your thoughts.

I find this a very useful communication tool for students to interact with their classmates. Blogs as a source for reflection can be useful in helping students retain information.

I would use a blog in a middle or high school setting for a reflection on projects they are working on.

continuation of April 15th

1) I commented on Alex's blog on self-portraits.
http://penvosam01.blogspot.com/2010/03/self-portrait-inspiration-and-technical.html?showComment=1272319242531_AIe9_BGOSrPtHaYAsiY9gZrXmu42HjLXxi__Um6JPZ0UemsUVA5WAnfd5_WLK9V0ZTcZ_OfkaHdZDPm7uFS98azPn-TPsReLO-wnx8bQRjN7t6q4X0xFStN_NeFI9TM8awnuqr5YSbj_EIy1JFkJwhVv-P5yNDJOZa7rxFNmvAtiTzp-BaPegHqf5y6EgFPKQ-ofDu0CqWRvGHmrt3O71wE7olc4nz-Gqw9ZYFaMLrNnql0X4GauC6Y7winIHadCicO5YxaqHWZs#c3358063530449772215

I commented on Pam's blog on self-portraits.

2) I chose to comment on Pam's blog because she is right above me in the list. I commented on the other blog because out of randomness and a little because of the personality of the blogger shown in class.

I posted a comment on smART Blogging:http://bartkm33.blogspot.com/2010/01/why-do-you-want-to-be-art-educator.html?showComment=1271360122053_AIe9_BEWv3rWiOd5QmeEu-Ab2DOfzZAl6vtwLLgtITgpQ7p0mDsUAXpRbZYc7UdbNWEOmXYKTWdH1oScZlAMAocOVBbrYFWomTETC3UzA20vIykk6EbfzMaynsSFVe1Zh8omHWOrqGqDqRAYRH36OFoodd0jAhbs83wWpmCfrUeR4PspzWwAJHtA6XlfzW7953lVYuAcgXZE0zRjCYJ3PBHn2fOmnETyhY7sDfd6OqJcQaCVgBSVh2XrVQiqhngJhzKAspblEH-k#c7878431205183457825

I tried posting on other blogs, but for some reason the site would not let me even get to view other blogs. I was trying to do so from the reading list, under Add, and typing in the web address from the AED log spring doc (minus the http://). I do not know why it was not letting anything go through besides Kirsten's blog as I was doing the same thing on each blog.

I at chose to comment on Kirsten's blog out of pure randomness. However, I chose to comment on her post about why she wants to be an art teacher because it seemed like one of the posts with the most substance, without having to watch a tutorial/video.

I could use a blog as a communication tool in a classroom as a method for students to comment on projects that they are working on with the class as a whole for more insight on what they could do with their project if they need an extra boost.

1)
http://www.adobe.com/education/solutions/k12/crosscurricular/
In this section I would use the Digital storytelling section, which opens as a pdf document to help me better teach my students how to digitally convey their thoughts and teach the different methods to do so.

2)http://www.apple.com/education/teachers-professors/digital-content-creation.html
In this section I would use the ilife section in my classroom to teach students to use the various mac programs on their computer such as Imovie to allow them to make presentations for classes.

3)http://www.edutopia.org/integrated-studies
I would use the real world examples to find inspiration to integrate other subjects into my classroom, especially the example of integrating art, science, and current events from the ASCEND School in East Oakland, Oklahoma. http://www.edutopia.org/little-school-that-did

b9 selfportrait

Part 1:
To me a self-portrait is a representation of who the artist is as an individual be it through a physical likeness or possibly through a portrayal of their beliefs/philosophy in an 2D or 3D art form.
There are some physical characteristics that make me, me: brown eyes, medium build, fair complexion, and moles on my face. There are other non-physical traits that I believe make me my individual self: I have a odd way of looking at things at times (cause people to wonder), can't keep a beat to save my life (perfect off beat though), love history and photography, want to become an art teacher, feel loyalty to my family and friends, and there are however perhaps more to be mentioned.
I can express my different sides through various lighting features, colors, and layers of the photos.
I want people to see me as a person who has different aspects of self that come together to make someone worthwhile.
I can reinvent my self at different stages in my life by reflecting on learning experiences and people who have impacted my life and what I want to do with that information in the future.
I would like to think that as time goes by I am becoming more sure of myself.
I want to become a person that I can become proud of and who has self-assurance that shines through.
Part 2:

I selected the first image because I want a realistic rendering that portrays who I am, but at the same time provides a surreal aspect to the image. This image was a self-portrait of a vegan animal rights activist artist who creates art on to campaign for the rights of animals, focusing on the rights of chickens.
I selected the second image because it is not a traditional self-portrait in that the viewer can't tell directly through viewing the image who the self-portrait is from. I like the fact that this portrait has identifying characteristics through the outline of the body. I think that the remaining composition (background and props) helps provide personality and background information to what the artist wanted the viewer to know about his/her-self.
I will use the characteristics of these self-portraits to help me form the conceptual basis of my self-portrait by helping me decide the tone and characteristics of the final piece.

Part 3:
http://userpages.umbc.edu/~ivy/selfportrait/back.html
I will probably use this resource by broadening my concept of what a self-portrait can be. This website provides images and background information on the various categories of self-portraits. Previously, I did not know that there were metaphysical or signature (I may have heard of this in art history before but this website reminded me of the term) self-portraits.
